As I look at the teenagers on the endless TV shows, they are often portrayed as careless and impulsive, leading lives of ease and indulgence. Well, from my experience, this is simply not true. So, I went on a search to find those beautiful young women in my community. I knew they were out there, but I didn’t realize how amazing they would be. I hosted a contest at our high school, Riverside Poly where students could nominate other students who showed characteristics of true beauty. I was astounded at the nominations. These girls are AMAZING. There were four winners and we had a group session and a Beauty Revived night where we celebrated the girls with family, a video and cupcakes. It was such an honor getting to know these girls. I will take the next few days introducing the girls so you can see just how great they are. Meet Caitlyn.
First up is Caitlyn. My favorite thing about Caitlyn is how kind and thoughtful she is. She was the one who text me after each event thanking me for choosing her. She seems to always think of other people first. And that is exactly what her nominator, Ana, said, “Caitlyn is a sweet soul. She has a sister with Down Syndrome and used that to motivate her to start a program at Poly High School called Stage Friends that allows students with special needs to participate in all fields of theatre. She is truly remarkable. She is always thinking of everyone else before herself and she truly cares for everyone.”
She is involved in theatre and is vice president of the department. She is also involved in link crew, which is a program that helps freshman students throughout their first year of high school.
After high school she is planning on attending a university on the east coast as a musical theatre major and pursuing a performance career.
In her words:
“An accomplishment that I am most proud of, that is still in the process of being accomplished, would have to be Stage Friends! The program has been rewarding for everyone involved! I am also very proud of the roles that I have played on the poly stage:)
Her best friend described her as: ” Caitlyn is a fun and loving person, who is passionate and hard working. She will do anything to achieve her goals and has a very good head on her shoulders (if that makes sense). She has a beautiful mind and I think she tries to be as kind as she possibly can while doing what is right!”
From the few evenings that I spent with Caitlyn, I was blown away by her overall countenance. She made me feel loved and beautiful and I could tell that I wasn’t the only one she made feel that way. This ability is one of the the things that makes her truly beautiful. I’m so blessed to have met her. Thanks Caitlyn for sharing your beautiful self.
