As a licensed Aesthetician, I have a great love for skin care. Managing your skin can be overwhelming, but here are a few simple tips that will help you have healthy and beautiful skin if you stick to it!
Wash your face daily….morning and night!! Never go to bed with your makeup still on. This will only clog your pores and cause buildup on your skin.

*Tip: Everyone’s skin is different. Some products are harsher on some skin than others. You may need to experiment around with face wash and moisturizers until you find one that fits your skin type well. It also helps to use the same line of products because they are formulated to interact with each other.
Exfoliate: It is important to exfoliate…aka slough off the old skin and buildup on your face. Most people don’t need to do this daily, but weekly is sufficient. Makeup, dirt, and oil build up after time and it’s important to exfoliate often to ensure you have smooth skin.
Natural Option: Make a paste with Baking Soda and water and gentle rub it into the skin and leave on for 5-10 minutes. Then rinse with cool water.
Drugstore Option: Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub Check it out here.
Tone: Using a toner on your skin helps restore your skin’s natural pH level. You can apply a toner to your face by either spraying or carefully rubbing it into the skin. Be careful not to use one that is too acidic and drying to your skin.
Natural Option: rose water (found at Sprouts or any natural whole foods store)
Drugstore Option: Neutragena Facial Toner Check it out here.
Moisturize: Moisturizing is such an important step in your skin care regimen because your skin needs to drink just like your body does. Your skin needs to stay hydrated and healthy. Even if you have oily skin, you still need to moisturize.
Natural Option: coconut oil
Drugstore Option: Check it out here.
*Tip: I have really oily skin and choose to slather on either coconut oil at night. Since I don’t want to add more oil before I apply my makeup, I forgo applying moisturizer all over and I just spot treat some dry patches on my face with coconut oil and I’m good to go for the day.
Protect: Make sure you either apply a good face moisturizer that includes sunscreen or a mineral powder or foundation that has SPF mixed in. It’s so important to protect your beautiful skin!
Spot Treat: Everyone has a blemish or two or more that they need to treat on your face throughout the month. It’s best to apply an ointment that will zap that sucker so you can get back to your smooth skin. But, sometimes you may be in a hurry to look good and you must take matters into your own hands and need to extract a black head or white head pronto. If you must, wash your hands, cover your fingers with tissue, and carefully extract the blemish. Be careful not to bruise the area because then your blemish has turned into something a lot bigger. Your skin is delicate and should be treated with care and patience. Then proceed to apply an ointment to help the blemish heal quickly and properly.
Natural: Use a dab of lemon juice or tea tree (melaleuca) essential oil on the blemish
Drugstore: Burt’s Bees Acne Spot Treatment Check it out here.
